bIOGRAPHY

Dr. Evan Tuohy is a fish biologist, USCG-licensed captain and dedicated scientific technical diver addressing fisheries management of commercially important species, coral reef restoration and marine science education. He earned his Ph.D. in 2022 from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez. 

 

His expertise is comprised of specialized in-situ fish tagging for monitoring purposes, fish community and benthic reef census, heavily task-oriented diving with machinery, equipment deployment and recovery, and mesophotic coral reef census. He has been contracted by the Caribbean Fisheries Management Council, National Geographic, National Science Foundation, NOAA, PR Dept of Natural Resources, among others.

 

Dr. Tuohy was featured as a Top 60 Alumni from 60 Years by his alum mater Florida Tech, highlighted by the NOAA Ocean Explorers for his work at Pulley Ridge and was an invited speaker at the Sea & Learn event in Saba, Dutch Caribbean where he lectured on the importance of conserving fish spawning aggregations. Dr. Tuohy continues to seek opportunities to use his technical diving expertise and actively engages in collaborative work for this purpose.
